Interview Location: West Lake Hotel, Fujian
Interview Team: Comrade Lin Aizhi, hello! During Comrade Xi Jinping's tenure as the Secretary of the Fuzhou Municipal Committee, you were the Standing Committee of the Fuzhou Municipal Committee and the Minister of the Propaganda Department of the Municipal Committee. Please tell us about your intersection in your work.
Lin Aizhi: In the summer of 1989, I went to Fuzhou as the head of the Propaganda Department of the Municipal Party Committee. Six months later, Comrade Xi Jinping came to Fuzhou to serve as Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee. From the beginning of his term, he talked to each comrade in the municipal party committee one by one to understand the work in their respective areas of responsibility. When he asked me to understand the state of Fuzhou's propaganda work, I said, "Secretary Xi, I have just been here for more than six months, and I don't know too much about the work. I can only talk about the big aspects and the obvious shortcomings that currently exist. "At that time, Fuzhou's foundation was relatively thin. The city's annual publicity expenditure was only 70,000 yuan. As a coastal provincial capital, there was not even a complete government newspaper, and so on.
After listening to my report, Secretary Xi said patiently that I had just come from Ningde . Ningde is a relatively backward area. Fuzhou, as the provincial capital, did not look very good. At present, my first job is to focus on economic work, and I must also focus on propaganda work, but there may not be as much economic attention, and the burden of propaganda work will be left to you. Let's set a rule: you set a full-year work plan at the beginning of the year, and then discuss and adopt it on the Standing Committee, and follow-up work will be done in accordance with the discussion and approval. If there are any important matters in your work, if you feel it necessary to go to the Standing Committee to study and decide, please let me know at any time. That is to say, no matter how difficult the work is, the standing committee member must first overcome it. If you can't solve it, you can always find me and I will help you. This is called "an order was given at the beginning of the year, and an order was given at the end of the year."
Secretary Xi's attitude is sincere and the words he speaks are real. Listening to his words made me feel very different. While feeling heavy responsibility and pressure, it is more motivated to work. My superiors have given me full autonomy and let me do my work. What other reasons can I not do? !! With this feeling, I am at ease to work.
Originally I thought that the secretary of Xi really didn't care much about me and let me toss. Later, I found out that he said that because he wanted me to be motivated and brave. When it comes to work, as long as I have something to ask him, ask him for advice and advice, even if he is busy, he will always help me enthusiastically, enlighten me to do the work and help me solve problems.
Interview Group: Did you then report to Comrade Xi Jinping about the publicity work?
Lin Aizhi: Yes. I went back and did my homework. I specifically found a time to report to the secretary the basic situation of Fuzhou's propaganda work. I talked bluntly about some issues at work. This time I talked about it in detail.
For example, I take the newspapers that I am familiar with. I said that as a provincial capital and an open city, Fuzhou has not yet had a decent government newspaper, which is very unacceptable. Although the existing "Fuzhou Evening News" is a newspaper sponsored by the municipal party committee director, it is not enough to run like a tabloid, giving a bad impression. How can a provincial newspaper in a capital city do this? This is a short board for the municipal party's propaganda work. Now we should consider expanding the edition, adding columns, and enriching the content. Otherwise, it is not commensurate with the status of provincial newspapers.
I said: Secretary Xi, I have been thinking about it for a long time. The Fuzhou Evening News must not only be expanded, but its style must also be changed. We should adhere to the nature of the party newspaper, and at the same time have some characteristics of the evening newspaper, so that we can be closer to the lives of the masses and provide knowledge and services to the general public.
Xi secretary was glad to hear my thoughts. He said: Yes, just do it. What you analyze is in line with reality. Fuzhou is a provincial capital. Now it is facing a new situation of reform and opening up. All aspects of work should be closely followed to match the new tasks and new tasks of the provincial capital. Expansion is well considered and should be on the agenda in due course. You first work out a detailed plan, then go to the Standing Committee to discuss and decide before implementing it.
Soon, the Municipal Standing Committee discussed and approved the decision to expand the Fuzhou Evening News. Therefore, this matter was included in the important work schedule of the municipal party committee and became the focus of the municipal party committee's propaganda department. After the news spread in the Evening News Agency, the whole society was full of enthusiasm. Everyone thought that this was a new beginning for the development of the Fuzhou Evening News. Therefore, how to do a good job of newspaper expansion has become a hot topic. The comrades of the newspaper office often get together in pairs. The discussion and contention of everyone are the expansion work, and they have put forward many good ideas, good methods, and good suggestions. Studying business and improving one's own ability have become the conscious words and deeds of newspaper comrades. Expansion has become a good opportunity to stimulate everyone's enthusiasm.
Whenever the expansion work encountered important joints and problems, I immediately reported to Xi Secretary and asked him to decide. The secretary of Xi is always hard-working, personally, and I will carefully analyze the characteristics of each edition. Xi Secretary said to me that newspapers are facing readers. In the era of reform and opening up, under the market economic situation, readers must be won by the newspaper itself. That is to say, the expanded newspaper should minimize the means of administrative distribution and try its best to adapt. Market, improve the quality of the newspaper itself, and make readers willing to subscribe. He also said that the Fuzhou Evening News is responsible for the task of organ newspapers. The first and second editions are solely responsible for these two editions. They must be undertaken in a qualitative and quantitative manner to timely and adequately convey the important information of the municipal party committee and municipal government. Work deployment, so that all units in the city have work direction, let the people of the city understand the work situation of the city; other editions, according to their own business positioning, have their own characteristics, so that readers can open the newspaper to find what they like to read . At the same time, the style of the entire newspaper must be harmonious, interesting and informative.
The secretary also made a suggestion for the sports edition. He said that when we report on important national events, we must be timely and accurate to avoid oversight, but on this basis, do n’t just talk about dry results: this athlete won the championship, and that athlete won the runner-up. We also have to dig out the stories of the coaches' hard work and the hard training of the athletes, and show them to the readers, so that everyone will be interested.
In addition, Secretary Xi suggested that we open a theoretical version. He said that an institutional newspaper without theoretical support would not be enough. Good theoretical articles can raise the academic level of the Evening News, as well as enhance the interest and ability of party members and cadres to study and apply theories.
Regarding our planned "Orchid Garden" supplement, Xi Secretary advised that you had better find a few well-known writers to be the "Pillar Pillars" of the supplement, bring the level of the work and increase readability. In this way, everyone will look at your supplement to find that this is indeed a solid position, which is conducive to further training of our correspondents and columnists.
