In preparation for the upcoming AFC U23 Championship finals and the 2020 Tokyo Men's Men's Qualifiers, the Chinese Olympic team announced on the 31st a list of 25 players, including Yang Liyu, Zhu Chenjie and others.
In the Chinese team's big list, Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao Club forward Yang Liyu, the best newcomer of the 2019 Chinese Super League, and Zhu Chenjie from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua are all on the list. In addition, Zhang Yuning, Duan Liu Yu, and Huang Zhengyu were also recruited.
The Asian Championship will be held in Thailand from January 8th to 26th, 2020. The Chinese team is in Group C. The opponents in the same group are Iran, South Korea and Uzbekistan. On the 9th, the Chinese team will welcome their first rival South Korea.
According to the rules, in addition to Japan having already qualified as the host for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the first three places in the preliminaries will receive Tokyo Olympic tickets (if the Japanese team enters the top three, the fourth place will also advance). In other words, to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, the Chinese team must qualify from the group and reach at least the semi-finals of the Olympic preliminaries.
